Delivering on a Promise: Wind XII Will Position MidAmerican Energy to Hit 100% Renewable Goal
Wednesday, May 30, 2018
Two years ago, MidAmerican Energy announced our vision of delivering 100% renewable energy to our customers. This morning at a 9 a.m. news conference, we announced a proposed wind project – Wind XII – that would realize that vision and position us as the first investor-owned electric utility in the country to generate renewable energy equal to 100% of its customers’ usage on an annual basis.
The Wind XII project proposal – a 591-megawatt project representing an additional $922 million investment in wind energy – will be formally filed with the Iowa Utilities Board later today. If approved, the project is expected to be complete in late 2020. Like our previous wind projects, Wind XII will be accomplished without the need to ask for an increase in customers’ rates.
As a partner and stakeholder, we thank you for all of your support. Together we will continue to put our customers first while supporting the communities we serve. Delivering on this vision provides economic development, workforce opportunities and long-term benefits providing a competitive advantage.
